Diploma in Water Sanitation and Hygiene

The Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the importance of clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices in promoting public health.

Throughout the course, students will learn about the global water and sanitation crisis and the impact that lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation has on communities around the world. They will also learn about the various technologies and approaches that are used to address these challenges, including water treatment, sanitation systems, and hygiene education.

In addition to gaining a theoretical understanding of these concepts, students will also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge through hands-on learning activities, such as designing and implementing a water or sanitation project in a community.

By the end of the course, students will have a deep understanding of the role that clean water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices play in promoting public health, and will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to make a positive impact in their own communities.

The learner has contact with the moderator through the e-learning platform where there are chats and can even ask for a skype chat with the moderator to have any issues of concern addressed.

Course Objectives

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the global water and sanitation crisis and the impact that lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation has on communities around the world.
  • Understand the various technologies and approaches used to address the challenges of providing clean water and proper sanitation, including water treatment, sanitation systems, and hygiene education.
  • Develop the skills and knowledge to design and implement water and sanitation projects in communities, including project planning, budgeting, and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Understand the importance of good hygiene practices in promoting public health and be able to design and implement hygiene education programs.
  • Understand the role that water, sanitation, and hygiene play in sustainable development and be able to apply this knowledge in a variety of contexts.
  • Develop the ability to communicate effectively about water, sanitation, and hygiene issues, both orally and in writing.
  • Understand the ethical and social dimensions of water, sanitation, and hygiene issues and be able to apply this understanding to real-world situations.

Assignments

After completing each module, students will be required to undertake practical assignments that apply the concepts learned. These assignments may include designing a WASH project plan, conducting water quality assessments, creating hygiene promotion materials, or developing community engagement strategies.

Final Exam

The course concludes with a comprehensive final exam that assesses students’ overall understanding of WASH principles and their ability to address real-world WASH challenges.

Duration

This is a 24-week course consisting of 26+ hours of online instruction and exercises.
